Vicky Lynn (Mikesell) Huys, 72, treasured sister, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024 in her home in Plymouth, Indiana.
Vicky was born in Plymouth, IN, June 5, 1952, to the late Oscar and Violet Mae Mikesell. Her childhood years were happily lived in South Bend and Culver, Indiana. She was a ray of sunshine, always smiling with an infectious laugh, even into adulthood. Upon graduating from Culver Community High School in 1971, Vicky took on various types of work but eventually lived and worked in Houston, Texas, where she learned property management and later moved back to Culver where she engaged in real estate.
Vicky married Alan Huys in 1984, divorcing in 2005. While living along the river in Plymouth, she developed a great love of nature. She could identify most birds, had many dogs (her favorite, Zack) and cats, enjoyed flowers and gardening, and took solace in listening to the running river water and walks in the woods.
Even though Vicky was fiercely independent and private, she had a big, caring heart often hidden in a guarded persona. She was not shy to stand by her convictions. She was inquisitive and always wanted to know why individuals believed what they did.
Vicky was beautifully unique and unconventional, marching to the beat of her own drum. She taught us authenticity and sincerity. She was always true to herself and enjoyed her independence by understanding what was enough...a tight family and a few dependable friends.
Although not always vocal, Vicky was a woman of faith, who loved deeply and loved hard. Above all, her greatest love and joy will always be her family. She loved being a Mikesell daughter, sister, and aunt.
We will miss you Vicky. Our lives will not seem as full or as fun without you. Be still and enjoy your eternal peace.
Vicky is survived by her sisters, Joyce (David) Kowatch Barclay of Punta Gorda, FL, and DeAnn (Dee) Florea of Granger, IN, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who adored her. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her brother, Doug Mikesell and sister, Barbara Ritter.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM EST at Wesley United Methodist Church, 511 School Street, Culver, IN.
