Susan Anna 'Susie' (Nordstrom) Norwich, 70, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away after a short illness leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion.
Born to Lloyd M. and Myrna G. (Lydig) Nordstrom on May 11, 1954, in Gary, Indiana, Susie dedicated her life to caring for others - both people and animals alike. She was a loving mother to her own children and a kind, generous friend to so many people, offering warmth, guidance, and a welcoming home filled with love and generosity.
Susie was raised in Thayer, IN, and later moved to Demotte, IN where she attended Kankakee Valley High School. She graduated from Purdue University in 1976 with a speech language pathology degree. Her passion was being a proud Boilermaker fan.
She would meet Dean R. Norwich, the love of her life and the two wed at the Lansing, IL United Methodist Church on April 12, 1980.
Susie never missed a cheerleading competition, softball game, or any opportunity to watch Paige cheer. She was her biggest fan and cheerleader. Susie would also never miss her son's t-ball, basketball, or football games. She would walk the golf course as her son competed in high school. She was always there every single day to chat on the phone for hours with her two children or anyone else who had her attention. She devoted several years to the Culver Lakefest Committee and organized the annual Oregon-Davis elementary school Christmas party.
Susie's deep affection for animals was second only to the love she had for her family. She was a dedicated speech-language pathologist for 39 years, teaching in the Gary, IN, North Judson-San Pierre, and Oregon-Davis school systems, where she made an immeasurable impact on the lives of countless students. Her passion for helping others extended beyond the classroom, she was one of the founders and President of the Marshall County Humane Society, a role she cherished and poured her heart into. She loved going to the theater for plays and concerts with all of her many friends. The Monkees and Barry Manilow were her favorite musical artists.
Whether she was chaperoning every school field trip, ensuring each visitor left her home with leftovers, or hosting family gatherings with her incredible cooking, Susie's love was ever-present. Her generosity and devotion to those around her will be forever cherished and carried on by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
