Mary Salary, 88, of Monterey, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on September 25, 2023.
Mary was born to Clay and Bertha (King) Washington in Midway, Alabama. She was blessed with 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Mary had a love for God and accepted Christ at an early age. Thus began a lifetime of service to her Lord.
On May 15, 1956, Mary wed Samuel Lee Salary. Their union produced a wonderful family of 5 daughters and 2 sons. Two of their daughters unfortunately died in infancy.
Mary loved supporting her children and grandchildren as well as strangers by going to their sporting events no matter how far away they were. She also greatly supported her church and served as President of the Usher Board at First Baptist Church of Kings Lake for over 50 years.
Mary is survived by her daughters: Nettie King and Geneva (Lyn) Jordan of Monterey, and Shellie (Curtis) Davidson of Seattle, Washington, sons: Ricky Salary of Monterey and Alfonso (Shirlene) Salary of Laporte, sister, Isabelle of Jacksonville, Florida, brother, Charlie Washington of Gary, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 infant daughters, sisters Pearl and Ozie, brothers, Wardell and George, and grandson, Ira James.
A time to gather with the family will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM EST with Elder Lennon Harris leading services at 10:00 AM EST. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Monterey, immediately followed by a repass at the former Monterey Elementary School, 5973 East Main Street, Monterey.
