Larry Joe Boetsma, 74, of Culver, passed away in Plymouth, IN on June 26, 2023, with his wife, Anita, by his side.
Larry was born to Joe and Thelma (Harris) Boetsma in Plymouth, IN, on December 19, 1948. He was one of three children. Growing up he worked early in his parents' furniture business. This experience prompted him to attend the Ray Vogue School of Interior Design in Chicago, IL after graduating high school. Larry later took over operation of the business upon his parents' retirement.
Larry loved karaoke, especially country music, and could recite song lyrics from every song he ever heard. His many well-worn Bibles were his prized possessions, and his encyclopedic memory of full passages was amazing.
On April 29, 1988, Larry married the love of his life, Anita Hoppe. Together they operated Boetsma Home Furnishings for many years.
Larry is survived by his wife, Anita, of Plymouth, IN daughter, Erica Partin, of Argos, IN son, Steven Boetsma of Elkhart, IN sisters, Debra (Allen) Mechling of Indianapolis, IN, and Cynthia (Tim) Decker of Lynchburg, VA and grandchildren, Harrison Partin of Tennessee, Austin (Macey) Partin of Plymouth, IN, Michael Boetsma of Rochester, and Mariska of Elkhart, IN. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Susan (Jim) Irwin of Plymouth, IN brothers-in-law, Bill Hoppe of Plymouth and Brian (Joetta) Hoppe of Bedford, and five nephews and their families. Lastly, Larry leaves his faithful canine companion and best friend, Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his parents in 2008, and his sister and brother-in-law, Clyde and Sandra (Boetsma) Craft in 1968.
A time to gather with the family and friends will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on Friday, June 30, 2023, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM EDT. A graveside service will follow at the Culver Masonic Cemetery at 11:30 AM EDT. Revs. Sue and Jim Irwin will officiate.
Memorials may be given in Larry's memory to the Marshall County Historical Society.
