Jon Wayne Van Horn, 77, of Culver, passed away on March 5, 2025, at 7:10 a.m. at the Center for Hospice Care in Mishawaka.
Born on July 20, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Harry Paul and Mary Louise (Reinhard) Van Horn. Jon was raised in the Bass Lake area and attended Culver High School, graduating with the class of 1965. He served 6 years in the Army Reserves out of Kingsbury. On November 17, 1973, he married Rose Anna De Pue.
In his early years, Jon would race motorcycles with the Burr Oak motorcycle club. He and his 2 brothers put together a stock car and he raced on the Plymouth and New Paris race tracks. He also did a lot of deer and rabbit hunting. He belonged to the local Goldwing motorcycle club in later years. He wouldn't miss a NASCAR race on tv, hoping the winner would be a Ford. He loved fishing on Lake Maxinkuckee whenever he got a chance with his buddy.
He worked at many different jobs in the area - mainly pertaining to the car industry. His last employment was at the street department for the city of Plymouth for 18 years.
Jon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rose Anna of Culver, sons: Brandon (Krista) of Dubuque, Iowa and Jeffrey of Culver, brother: Harry R Van Horn of Culver, sisters-in-law: Kathy Van Horn of Plymouth and Paula Arvesen of Bremen, mother-in-law: Rosemary DePue of Winona Lake, and granddaughters: Hailey and Gabby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael A Van Horn, father-in-law: John L. DePue, brother-in-law: Mark Arvesen, sister-in-law: Connie Van Horn, and 2 nephews: Ronnie and Eric Van Horn.
A time of visitation will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on March 21, 2025, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM EST.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka, in Jon's memory.
