Donald Gene Sischo
October 12, 1941 - December 25, 2023
Donald Gene SIscho, 82, of Monterey, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023, in Plymouth, Indiana.
Donald was born to Floyd C. and Zelda V. (Knotts) Sischo on October 12, 1941, at home in Michigan City, Indiana. As many young men of the time, he left school early to join the service. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from March 1960 to February 1964. After his honorable discharge, he spent 18 years working for North Fork and Western Railroad repairing their tracks. He then spent 10 years at Ben Tire before his retirement.
On August 3, 1986, Donald married Janice Starr in Plymouth, Indiana. They shared 37 years of marriage. Ever the loving husband, he cherished his time with Janice. He was also a loving, devoted father and grandfather. His devotion trickled down to each generation, as seen in the way he helped raise great grandson, Nathaniel, as one of his own children.
Donald had a passion for yard work and took pride in seeing to it that his lawn was the best looking on the block. His love of the outdoors extended to hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family around the campfire. He enjoyed grilling, cooking, and baking as well. He was always active, never spending idle time. His family knew him as quite a jokester and his presence in their lives will be dearly missed.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Janice, daughter, Raye Ann (Perry) Leslie, son, Nathaniel Carnegie Jr., stepchildren, Laura, Karen, and Robert Holmes, Jr., brothers, Ronnie and Floyd Sischo, grandchildren, Jennifer (Dennis) Sobieck, Jason (Erica) Beerwart, Brandy (Pat) Bilby, Kelli (Matt) McGuiness, Rebecca Leslie, and Nikki (Garret) Gallas, several grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Poff.
A time to share memories with the family will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on January 2, 2024, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM EST. Rev. Pat Allen will officiate funeral services at 3:00 PM EST at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Donald's memory to the Delong Food Pantry sponsored by the Delong Gospel Lighthouse Church.
