Don Richard Keller, 84, of Monterey, passed away in Winamac, IN on September 27, 2023.
Don was born August 23, 1939 in Monterey, IN to Carl and Mildred (Stevens) Keller. After graduating from Monterey High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, serving in Okinawa, Japan for a time. After his service in the Air Force, he returned to Monterey and began a career farming as well as spending over 11 years working at the First National Bank of Monterey.
Don was very active in the Monterey community. He was a member of Collins-Tasch American Legion Post 399, serving as Post Commander for several years, served as a volunteer fireman on the Monterey Fire Department for 50 years, and was a member of the Culver Community School Board for 7 years. Don was also the longest living member of the Monterey United Methodist Church.
He loved watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting events and watching college and professional sports with his friends at the American Legion or local Corner Tavern.
Don is survived by his son - Doug Keller of Michigan City, IN, daughters - Kim (Ken) Poling of Holland, MI, Diane (Greg) Trusty of North Judson, IN, and Deborah (Michael) Glick of Chapel Hill, NC, brothers - Jerry (Linda) Keller and Steve (Brenda) Keller, grandchildren - Eric Poling, Taylor Huntman, Evan (Erika) Poling, Courtney Trusty, Devin Keller, Adam Glick, Olivia (Ethan) Stewart, and Christian Glick, and great-grandchildren - Penelope and Oliver Poling. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister - Sally Griffin, brother - James Keller, sister - Dollie Martindale, and infant brother - Billie Jo Keller.
A time to gather with the family will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 2:00 - 6:00 PM EST. Funeral services will follow on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Monterey United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM EST followed by burial in Riverside Memorial Cemetery.
